Course Description
The Advanced Rescue course is designed and intended for participants to learn several rescue techniques to remove a fallen worker from fall arrest systems. Participants in the course are likely part of a group, shift or crew of workers who work at heights who may be participating in rescue events for each other. This course focuses on the use of commercially available rescue systems (Automatic Descent Control Devices, Block and Tackles, RSRL’s, Rope Descent Systems, Extension Poles, etc.) and the various ways that each system can be used to rescue a suspended co-worker.
Participating in a rescue event is not a common occurrence, therefore, simplicity and retention of skill is paramount. This course has an intense focus on mastery and retention of basic skills rather than teaching a volume of rescue skills that may not be retained. This course builds upon common assisted and suspended rescue methods taught in other courses (wind, tower, general industry) and demonstrates several different ways to use commercially available rescue systems.
This course is designed according to ANSI Z359.2 requirements for Authorized and Competent Rescuers. This course meets the Criteria for Accepted Practices in Safety, Health and Environmental Training (ANSI Z490.1).

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be capable of developing a rescue method for workers suspended from fall arrest systems. Participants will be able to determine a safe method of access (fall protection during rescue event) and determining a method to lift, disconnect and lower a rescue subject. They will also be capable of setting up and using fall protection and belaying methods to protect rescuers during rescue operations. Students will be capable of conducting before use and detailed inspections on common rescue systems (competent rescuer). They will also be capable of disconnecting incapacitated workers from fall arrest systems and lowering them from height. This course focuses on mastery and retention of basic skills rather than teaching a volume of rescue skills that may not be retained.
