Sutro Fall Protection Survey

Between Sutro Mountain and Twin Peaks, Sutro Tower, standing at over 900 feet, is an icon to the residents and visitors of San Francisco. Built in 1973, Sutro tower is a TV and radio antenna that services the entire bay area. Due to the bay area’s weather, and particularly because of the fog, this tower requires frequent maintenance, which also means making sure the existing fall protection systems in place are evaluated to determine they are functional, user-friendly, engineered, and in good condition. Last spring, Gravitec was asked to conduct a fall protection survey on the tower, an experience our engineer will never forget. With 20 different areas to go through, the task was both daunting and awesome at the same time.
