Two Generations of Gravitec
Charles Hughes and his son Devin were excited when they ended up in the same Tower Climber & Rescue Trainer and Refresher course. Charles—who owns a wireless broadband tower company—was here for his third training. This was Devin’s first time at Gravitec, before that he’d gotten his fall protection training from his dad.
“I was going back to train my sons to climb…I knew I wanted the best training available,” says Charles.
Out on our training room floor Devin is prepping his gear. He’s going to practice a rescue on his dad.
“He’s been doing these since he was 18. It’s been a few years since I trained him, but he got here and knew exactly how to do a rescue the right way.”
Devin’s no longer working for his dad. When his new wireless company promoted him to safety director he had one stipulation: “I said I wanted to be trained by Gravitec, had them put it right in my contract.”
Coming up as a climber Devin saw how important proper training was to his dad. “I figured, if I’m going to be in charge of guy’s safety I want to get trained by Gravitec.”
“Being in the facility, it’s eye-opening. When you climb a lot you develop some habits. It’s great to be reminded of why you do things a certain way.”
