BOWLINE KNOT

The bowline is a common knot that is easy to tie and untie, even after a heavy load. It has a propensity to come undone when not loaded or dressed improperly. When used for a rescue load it should always have a stopper knot tied in the bitter end.

Applications

Tag lines, hauling equipment and materials, litter attendants and multiple attachments.

Directions

Form a small loop on the standing end. Pass the working end of the rope around a structure and down through the loop over. Wrap the rope over and around the standing end and pass it through the small loop. Dress, set, and tie a stopper knot on the bowline.
