Petzl’s I’D S is a self-braking descender with an anti-panic function for working on fixed ropes. A multi-functional handle allows the user to unblock the rope and control the descent with the hand on the braking side of the rope; to move more easily on horizontal or low-angle terrain thanks to the button on the handle, and to position himself while on the rope. The anti-panic function is engaged if the user pulls too hard on the handle (the pivoting cam is released and automatically brakes to stop the descent.)
When working at height, precision and safety are non-negotiable. The Petzl I’D S Self-Braking Descender is purpose-built for rope access, rescue, and work positioning, offering unmatched control with a reliable safety backup.
One of the standout features of the I’D S is its anti-panic handle, which automatically stops the descent if the user pulls too hard—an essential safety feature for workers in high-stress or emergency situations. This reduces the chance of free-fall accidents and builds confidence for users of all experience levels.
This device accommodates 10 to 11.5 mm ropes, ideal for industrial and rescue applications. Its safety gate allows ropes to be loaded without unclipping the device from the harness, improving efficiency during rigging. The integrated brake adds further rope friction, giving you consistent speed control regardless of rope condition.
Whether you’re performing tower rescues, structural descent, or rope access work, the I’D S supports both mainline and belay system roles. It can also be configured for lowering or hauling systems thanks to its versatile design and compatibility with pulleys.

Are you ready to trust your descent to a tool built by rope access professionals? The Petzl I’D S continues to set the standard in vertical mobility gear.
The anti-error safety cam reduces the risk of an accident as a result of incorrect installation of the device on the rope. The shape of the cam is designed to improve rope glide during an ascent. The pivoting cam makes it easier to take up the slack in the rope. It can also be used to make a reversible haul system and for short ascents (in conjunction with Petzl’s FOOTAPE footloop and the ASCENSION handled rope clamp).
