Gravitec Experts Say: Elk River’s 13450 Spreader Bar is a popular accessory to make work positioning more comfortable. The two-hook design prevents the work-positioning strap underneath the buttocks from squeezing the worker’s legs together. Although more comfortable, Gravitec has mixed feelings about this connector. Comfort and ease of use are important, but the spreader bar often finds its way into creative rigging. For example, it isn’t uncommon to find climbers connecting ladder safety system sleeves to the spreader bar and then into the work positioning D-rings. During a fall, this configuration would invert the worker and he would fall much further than desired. Like all equipment, the 13450 Spreader Bar is a great item providing it is used correctly.
